Tooth Extractions

A tooth extraction is the removal of a tooth from its socket in your jawbone. This procedure is most commonly performed on wisdom teeth (your third set of molars) that aren’t growing into place correctly. However, tooth extractions can also be used to remove damaged or decaying teeth that cannot be saved using restorative techniques. There are two types of tooth extractions—simple and surgical.

Simple extractions are performed on teeth that can be seen in your mouth. Using an instrument called an elevator, your dentist will loosen the problem tooth and remove it using a tool called the forceps.

Surgical extractions are performed on teeth that cannot be seen or have been broken off at the gum line. During this process, an incision in your gum will be made to surgically remove the broken or impacted tooth.

Local Anesthetic for oral surgery

To help our patients feel more comfortable with the oral surgery process, we offer local anesthetic. Local anesthesia is a form of sedation where the sedative is injected near the area to be worked on in order to provide a localized numbing sensation. Patients are awake with this option.
