A tooth extraction is the removal of a tooth from its socket in your jawbone. This procedure is most commonly performed on wisdom teeth (your third set of molars) that aren’t growing into place correctly. However, tooth extractions can also be used to remove damaged or decaying teeth that cannot be saved using restorative techniques. There are two types of tooth extractions—simple and surgical.
Sedation for Oral Surgery
To help our patients feel more comfortable with the oral surgery process, we offer local anesthetic. Local anesthesia is a form of sedation where the sedative is injected near the area to be worked on in order to provide a localized numbing sensation. Patients are awake with this option but are generally unable to feel pain in the area being worked on.
